Hey everyone. I have a leatherman wave that I have owned for a few years but hasn't gotten much use. Back when i first bought it, and didn't know much about knives, I heated the tip of the blade for something (can't remember what). Now the tip of the knife is a little blackened and i was wondering if there is a way i can remove that. thanks alot!

Keep in mind that if you heated it hotter than it would be comfortable to touch , you probably ruined the temper of the steel.

It takes more than 400 degrees to do much to the hardness. It may be OK.

If it's just blackened there's a decent chance you didn't get it that hot, just carbon coated the tip. Hope that's what it is. If you did ruin the temper, it's not the end of the world, just the tip won't keep a very good edge and it won't be as durable. Chances are you'll never even notice if it's just the tip.

Metal polish is great, alky-hol works sometimes, Barkeepers Friend works really well, Comet isn't the worst and sometimes even WD40. Get yourself a nice scrubbing sponge or scour pad, and get to work.

Just so you will know, I tried to get Leatherman to repair a bunch of my broken blades for a fee, and they wouldn't do it. They said they were all covered under warranty (even though I told them every one was my fault) and fixed them all for free.

Honesty just doesn't pay.:D:D:D

Great to know about Leatherman's warranty and customer service.

Wow very impressive. Buying a knife or multitool is always satisfying. However when you know that as long as you don't lose them, the company will keep them pristine for life, that's simply amazing.
