Its time for a new ceramic platen and I need to remove the old one, It is epoxied to the metal platen.
if I heated up the platen could that loosen up the epoxy aiding in removal?
Any ideas before I go for it?

I haven't had to remove a ceramic platten but I have worked with epoxy quite a bit.

Most Epoxy will soften when heated (150 to 200°F) for the first time. Assuming you haven't heated it hot enough through friction, you should be able to heat it up with a heat gun or torch and slide it off side ways once heated. If the heat doesn't soften the glue it gets comlicated. You can soak it in acetone, which will take for ever if you don't have numerous cracks for it to get into. You can wrap it in a heavy cloth or duct tape it and crack the ceraminc platen with a hammer then soak. Just remember the fumes from the epoxy are toxic and the fumes from acetone are flammable. Oh yea, put a bucket or a box under you platten so when the slippery little devil comes loose it doesn't hit the floor and break.

Good luck.
