I know this can be done easily but I just don't with what. I DO NOT want to just scrape it all off although it does look nice, I want to strip it off with something.

Anyone know exactly what I need to do it correctly? And what should I coat the bare blade with after to protect it?

I just ordered one, has not even shipped yet but I know that coating SUCKS because my friend has one.

I used some heavy body paint and varnish remover to strip my American Lawman. I think the brand was "Circa 1870" or something like that.

It worked like a charm and required just about zero elbow grease or scraping.

Good old fashion sand paper, the cheaper models are painted to look smooth, but are rough underneath.

I used acetone, because that's all I had. The stonewashed finish underneath the Recon 1's and Lawman is really handsome and I would never recommend "scraping" off the coating.

It depends on which knife you get.You can scrape of the teflon coated folders(I used swiss army knives bottle opener) or paint remover. They look very nice with the stonewash underneath them.
But at the fixed blades u cant scrape them off its not teflon you need epoxy paint remover. And they dont have any good finish underneath so you gotta polish them with the sandpaper imo.

You dont need to cover them with something if they are stainless steel. If its carbon steel wipe it with a oiled rag.

I used "zip-a-strip" paint remover on my Carbon V Recon Scout.

Underneath was a unfinished blade that needed much attention.

But it was worth the effort.
