Removing cold steel Teflon coating?

I got a recon 1 tanto the other day and don't like the coating. If it was the dlc like my ZT 350 had, that would be a differen story but given the price difference it's understandable.

I don't want to use harsh chemicals or paint thinners and was wondering there was something around the house I could use? I've heard some people use wire brushes, or wire wheels, sandpaper or razor blades.

What would you recommend?

I used regular paint remover and a plastic scraper to remove the coating from my American Lawman. I let the blade soak in the paint remover for a few hours before scraping the paint off.

Yea, I know that method, but I'm looking for a way other than using that

I soaked my lawman in citristrip overnight and then went to work with a plastic scraper. Still took some elbow grease. The citristrip is very mild to work with, not nasty like paint thinner or chemical stripper.

The old Cold Steel coating is not very tough and can be scraped off without chemicals. Grab a pocket knife or box knife and get after it. Otherwise abrasives will work just fine. Abrasives will scratch up the blade underneath if that matters.

I used 1000 grit sand paper on a Kabar folder. Worked well but need two sheets.

I thought brake cleaner might work: fail.
For my CS machetes I used cut up undershirt with regular isopropyl alcohol. This can be done anywhere in the house, and it will take awhile to complete. When I had about removed 95%, I finished with FINE sandpaper used for metal. I only sanded each surface for LESS than a minute. Turned out good.:)
