I have a friend that will be giving me a damascus blade that they don't want anymore. The knife was used for a while and the etching is no longer consistent is there a way to remove the etching so I can redo it and make it consistent again?

Sanding or grinding is the only way to remove it. In most cases if it's quality Damascus with proper finish, grinding will be necessary. Just sanding will take forever.

Pics would help a lot. Maybe there are other solutions.
