I want to remove dual thumbstuds off some knives for polishing. I have tried using a wrench -- even two wrenches. Cant budge them. Applied lube. Still no luck.
Anyone done this? If so, how did you do it?
Thanks.

some are pressed on and they have to be destroyed more or less to remove. what knife are you working on?

Thanks Never occurred to me. I am doing a CRKT Full size Crawford Kasper. The other, later on will be a BM 710.

On my Sanrenmu and Enlan, mostly using blue loctite, could be forced opened using two pliers. It'll leave marks on the studs though.

The latest Sanrenmu T21 uses red loctite, so it's harder. Didn't use any heating due to lack of equipment and not wanting to ruin the blade hardness.

pop it in the oven @ 300 deg F for a while and let it come up to that temp, temp is enough to break down the loctite and "should" not affect the temper on most blades.

The only time I've tried to remove thumb studs (also the clip) was on a SOG Twitch I because I carry it loose in the pocket and don't want it catching on anything. I was able to unscrew them using 2 needlenose pliers. I had to "finesse it" because there wasn't much room for the pliers - the studs were almost touching the frame of the knife. There didn't appear to be any loctite on the threads.

Thanks for the tips .. how about the other component? Or it should be blade only (with the studs). Handle (zytel, G10, micarta)? nylon washer?
My guess is that these non metal component will warp .. or destroyed .. correct?

I'd recommend just doing the blade, as it would be possible for some of the other components to be damaged by the heat, to what extent I do not know.
