Any suggestions on how to remove the edges inside the red squares?

The result would need to be completely straight
thanks

Yes, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a method to get it done so that the file is equally wide through it's lenght, at the points where the material is removed.

Grind it on the flat platen, and measure with a micrometer as you get to the final size. Do the last few hundredth with a 400 grit belt. Go slow and it should not be any trouble. Obviously, dip in water every few passes.

Just curious, could you do something like that on a surface grinder? I don't have one and have no experience with them...

Start with a flat file, starting with a half round file wont be worth it imho.
Lots of extra work with no extra benefits

Sure. Surface grinder would work.
Just clamped to correct orientation & switch on the machine...
Were I doing that, would rough it out on the belt to reduce wear & tear on my good wheels.
