Hey everyone, so I just got done epoxying up some scales on a blade I've been working on and off on for a long time now. I ran into some tang/scale flatness issues so I partially tapered the tang (not a lot though) just to make sure that would be flat. I also muffed up the scales (micarta) when tryin to take them down to about 1/4 from 3/8ths on my 4x36, so I also spen alot of some making those flat again. These are all rookies mistakes mixed with not thinking ahead.

Anyway, this is one of the nicest blades I've made and it's my favorite hamone to by far to date, plus it's for a good friend that I've been owing this knife to for over a year :( I boiled scales off a long time ago successfully however I am not sure if I ruin the temper cause it was like 3 years ago. Can I boil the ones off safely without ruining the temper? are there any other ways if not that with easily get them off and get rid of all the epoxy on the tang?

I appreciate any help, Thanks

You'll only ruin the temper if you exceed the termperature at which the blade was tempered. I doubt boiling water will be hot enugh to do that, so I think you'll be fine.

Thanks for the helps guys. I was stupid in posting this before I found out what the boiling point of water was (212 f*), it's just it didn't cross my mind until right after I posted it. So I just stuck a candy thermometer in the water and made sure it didn't go much above that temp and it all worked out. Thanks again :)
