Hey guys,
Just got my 0566 in and it's a cool blade but I'm not much of a flipper guy and want to grind it off, was just wondering if any if you guys have done it and could give me some tips as to how to do it, or maybe do it for me

Other than "don't do it"? The flipper is what keeps the edge from smacking into the standoffs. Very small margin for error.

yea, the flipper tab is kinda designed around the function of the knife...just don't buy a flipper lol

Odd choice of a knife to buy for "not much of a flipper guy" ....
I gotta imagine there are other options out there that might be a better fit? Like a 0550?
I dunno, it seems like you're buying jeans and cutting them off to make shorts when you could just buy a pair of shorts from the get-go...

It's has been done in here within the last few months. Someone removed the flipper and added a finger choil if I remember correctly. Didn't look too bad. I'll see if I can't dig up the thread.

I think uxo2 already did, above?

I would say, "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!" I love mine! Thanks uxo2. But if you were to do it , I would say use a dremel cut off wheel and then sand it smooth

One of the cool things about knifeology is our ability to change to make it more to our liking.
I've changed, embellished nearly every knife I've owned.
If you want to change it go ahead. Just be sure you are considering the mechanics of the knife before altering it. If you make it unusable or unstable you lose everything it has been made to be as well as a good chunk of change.

I might return it, I did strip two screws taking if apart to take out the torsion bar, I'd imagine I'd have to replace the screws and put the torsion bar back in to return it

Return it after taking it apart and stripping screws? If you don't like the knife just sell it as is at this point with full disclosure of what you did to it.

If your not a fan of the flipper, I would recommend exchanging the knife for a 0620. The specs are nearly the same except the 0620 is slightly heavier. The 0550 is also an excellent alternative.

Have you used the thumb studs much. I found it difficult until I de-assisted the knife. This knife is designed to use the flipper. Others have removed it and de-assisted as well and are quite pleased. I lightened my knife and removed the spring.
Any knife I get I always go over it and usually make some changes.
Some have used dremels and others bench grinders. You want to keep it cool. Lay out the area to be removed then remove the blade. Place tape on the blade to protect you and the blade. Clamp in a vise when using a hand tool. Take your time and don't do it if you are tired.
