So I have this strut and I'm thinking that it would make a great straightening jig. But I'm not sure what the affects of this gold coating would be at around 400 degrees? Would this kick off fumes like regular galvinizing? Any one know a good way of removing it?20180818_164633-567x1008.jpg

The fumes are really nothing to worry about. They are inert Zinc oxide, if you throw it in the forge wear a respirator you will be A Ok.

If you dont feel safe, a dip in any acid will take it off pretty fast.

That’s a section of din rail. The coating is just a type of gold Zink and will be perfectly fine at tempering temps.

Galvanized steel is stable to well over 600°F. Just use it as-is.

The gold color is just a galvanizing technique to color galvanized coatings. Black and gold are the most common colors done. No different that if it was gray.
