is it possible to remove the micarta grips on the GB knife?
I want to take mine off so that I can grind off the handguard extentions. I removed the screws, but it appears that the slabs are glued or epoxied on as well.

They are stuck on there with double stick tape. Chris does this as an added measure of water resistance. It is possible to get them off by carefully sliding something under the scale and gently prying on it, but you wil likely scratch the finish, so there is my disclaimer. Why do you want to grind off the guards?

Wow, these grips are hard to get off...
Liberal use of lighter fluid, a SAK can opener and a few scratches later, they are off. The tang is skeletonized and quite neat. One could hide a few waterproofed matches (shortened) if so inclined, but it would be more hassle than it's worth. The glue residue was a real pain to get off, but since I got more time than brains, why the hell not...
The difficulty in getting the grips off is a testament to how well the knife is made as without soaking the handle in naptha, I could not slide the point of a fine sewing needle anywhere between the tang and the grips.

I wanted to grind off the micarta extentions that follow the guard since although I love having handguards on a knife, Harsey tends to (in my opinion) overexaggerate this part of the knife and his influence shows on the GB a little. I'll keep you guys posted as to how the mods are coming along...
