Hello All,

I have some kurouchi knives that came coated with some sort of clear lacquer, to prevent rust in transit I assume.

I would like to remove it and am wondering if any of you have some proven methods.

Thank you.

Paint remover, if you know what you're doing.

Easier, IMHO, fine grit sandpaper and/or steel wool. And, of course, a bit of work! :p

Lacquer Thinner. That is, afterall the purpose for which it was formulated.

A true lacquer does not cure. It just dries. Once the solvent is gone it is hard. Add solvent to dry lacquer and it just dissolves.

Well, I called it lacquer, but I'm not sure. Anyway, it is a clear, hard coat put on Japanese blades to prevent rust. Lacquer thinner did little. On the recs of some over at knifeforums I used Acetone and was done in a couple minutes.

Thank you all.
