If i wanted to remove a patina, i'm guessing i can just use sand paper correct? if so, can this be done by hand or will it just take an unrealistic amount of time?
am talking specifically about carbon steel knife patinas (done with mustard)..
any answers/comments appreciated:thumbup:

Hello,
I have a patined 1095 blade and im able to remove it quite easily with white polishing compound impregnated on balsa ( i guess its around 5 microns).

Patinas are generally very thin, flitz or other mild polishing compounds will remove them unless you've managed to deeply etch the steel in an uneven pattern.

No sandpaper required, UNLESS there's pitting that you want to remove also.

For just patina, polishing pastes like Flitz/Simichrome will get it done (with some elbow grease), and won't scratch up your blade in the process.
