I've got a custom with a stag crown handle that has bits of what I assume is green polishing compound in the nooks and crannies. Is there a way to remove this easily and quickly without harming the handle or do I need to just go the toothpick route?

i have tried a wire brush both manual and power. a metal pick works the best. you could try hot water and a stiff brush which might work.

I've used small dental horse hair stiff bristle brushes in a dremmel. These get down in the fissures and cracks to really clean it up where nothing else I've used seems to reach. If you want one let me know. I don't have many but I can ship out one to you to clean up that knife and several others for quite a while if it helps you out.. Just pay me shipping first class with your addy.

Oh yeah, just so you know these are used by dentists and dental labs to polish and buff out gold crowns so they are quite delicate but do a good job. Worse thing that happens is the hairs sometimes pull out which eventually wears them down to worthless and if you get them really dirty they can eventually smear instead of clean so generally speaking I only use them after doing the major clean up with other things like the tooth brush trick and use these last.

Thanks guys. I'll try that stuff out. STR, thanks for the offer. I should have some dremel brushes around here somewhere that'll do the trick.

No problem. I found this on my hard drive from a question asked like yours in the past. You can buy these in any dental supply store that will allow 'cash' purchases for non accounts. It may need ordered if they don't actually stock anything though. A lot have gone to central facilites.

Left to right here is soft, medium stiff, standard stiff and extra stiff. They last a long time. I bought a box of each one in 1997 and still have about half a box of each one left out of a box of 12 each. I've used non dental ones but they are not as good. Having a dental background my wife and I have an account with Patterson Dental so we just order them and some other things like small carbide burrs and the like when we need them. The draw back is that anything labeled dental ain't cheap but they do work. Good luck.

Just soap and warm water works best for me to clean Green Polish compound always. May be tooth brush.

I deal with lots of Green Rouge because this is my final sharpening stage.

Thanks, Vassili.
