Hello,

Does anyone know how to remove spotting rust from an Ang Khola? As I mentioned in this thread here, I managed to get my AK rusty. What's the best way to remove the rust?

Thanks in advance.

What kind of rust are we talking about? Do you have any photos? Flitz is good stuff for surface rust, but for deeper stuff, you may need more oomph.

And once you get it cleaned up, remember to oil the blade.

My method of cleaning after an afternoon of chopping:

Clean the blade using water and dish soap.
Dry it thoroughly and then Flitz it.
Wipe clean and coat the blade with WD40 or CLP.

This has worked very well for me.

I use 400 then 600 then 1200 grit sandpaper to remove rust spots and scratches. I also use a worn piece of 600 to take any burr off the edge of the blade after sharpening. It works great and takes very little time. This also can be used to restore the bright finish. I haven't found any 3000 grit yet (locally), but I would expect it would completely polish out all scratches and give you the mirror finish that the Kamis (and others of us) favor.

For preserving, the H. I. FAQ says to wipe it down with a Tuf-Cloth and, if you're going to store it for any length of time, apply a coat of Renaissance Wax to the whole thing - blade, handle, and sheath. Both can be had on that big auction site we all hate to name. :-)
