Removing rust from old knife

Hi

I got this old Solingen garden knife. If I've done my research properly the stamp is from the interwar period so the knife is pretty old. While trying to get some red rust off of it after a camping trip, I stupidly let the handle sit in the salted vinegar solution. This started some red rust on the pins and the short bit of tang. I'm wondering if any of you wizards have a process for removing the rust from the tang without having to break the handle. Or if I have to break open the handle, how might I reassemble it???

Thanks

I would soak some shop towels like the blue Scott’s in some evaporust and wrap the blade and handle in them tightly and then place it in a garbage or plastic bag of some kind and let it sit for a half a day
