Removing striations from steels

I read somewhere that it was possible to turn a striated ( grooved ) steel into a smooth one. I don't have a lathe or machine shop tools , but I was wondering if there was a way to do this, as I prefer smooth steels. I have a couple I'd like to convert.
Thanks.

Emery cloth and great patience would do the job. Use coarse paper to eliminate the striations, then work through the grits, running the paper over the steel like a Turkish towel. Do all sides equally. Clamping the steel in a vise so the steel sticks straight up would probably be easiest. A good job for a sleepless night.

You could stick the steel in a drill to speed the process.....

There's an article on modding over at www.sosakonline.com about removing serrations from SAK OHT.

Edit to add: too long not around the forum, I thought you were asking about serrations :o sorry for wrong response.

Thanks for the response, guys. I will try it and see how it goes. The drill idea I might attempt, putting the end in a 1/2" chuck and sanding them off.

Thanks
