Does anybody have any ideas about how to remove the "Teflon" coating on a blade? I have a new version CS Recon 1 and the new finish is a little crappy so Im going to remove it and try to make the knife a bit more unique.

My brother can probably sandblast it for me. Ive been rubbing it with steel wool and got some of it off but I reached a point where it was actually STICKING TO THE KNIFE Imagine that Lynn Thompson!!!

Anyway , any suggestions-how to do it myself without scratching up the metal underneath??? :)

I tried everything on my old Recon Scout. Scratched it up pretty well using inappropriate tools. Finally went to Napa, the auto supply store, and bought a spray can of paint stripper. Besides Napa it also says Martin Senour Paints #7229. Also says "TECnique, Professional Car Care Products....Professional Detailers Line".

I carefully masked everthing but the blade and the top and sides of the brass guard. I masked the bottom of the guard, next to the handle. to prevent accidently letting stripper seep through to the kraton handle. The stripper took the black finish right off.

I then hand polished the blade and the brass guard. I'm still working on the blade because, as I mentioned, I put some nasty scratches in it. This would not have happened had I found this stripper first. Good luck!

Doesn't hydrogen peroxide break down teflon??
I may be wrong. Hmm.... need to do a search.

Blades

Blades,

I don't know the answer to that question, but it has been my understanding (and I wouldn't bet my life on this, understand) that CS knives have a baked epoxy finish....not teflon. Teflon isn't really that tough based on my experience with cookware. :D

runsalone,

Let me know how it works out for you!
