I have a project that I need some help on. I need to remove a teflon coating from a knife. I want to use a chemical method, rather than abrasion. Has anyone successfully tried this?

The prob. with this is that teflon is MADE to be almost impenitrable, and ALMOST anything that can remove teflon will distroy the steel.

(REMOVE IF TOTALY WRONG)

teflon itself is pretty inert but the coatings may be stripped with acetone or paint thinner. it really depends on the coating. most coatings are chemical resistant so you are probly going to blast the blade and refinish it

Thanks! I'll try the paint thinner or acetone. This is actually an aluminum handle that is coated.

I think they chimed in on this for the Becker BK-9 or BK-7 project that went down a while ago... I'm not 100% sure if it was Teflon Coated specifically or not...
