I am a fan of Benchmade knives, but does anyone know how to get ride of the Benchmade Butterfly that now adorns my new 720's handle?

What??? You don't like butterflies?!?!?! :p :o :p :o :p :o :p

Now seriously, why remove it? Maybe you can change the scales.

I've used Semichrome to successfully remove images on blades. Don't know what kind of handle you have, though, but it should work. Toothpaste and a rag also might work.

What? Having a butterfly on the blade is too wussy for you? Maybe you'd prefer the "My Little Pony" or "Prancing Unicorn" logos?

Seriously. You're not getting it off unless you sand it off. If it's laser etched, you don't have much sanding to do. If it's stamped or engraved, you have a lot of sanding to do. Either way you're looking at refinishing the entire surface (flat) that the logo is on, and if you do that, you'll probably have to do the rest of the blade to match.

Sell it and get a Spyderco with a little deer tick on the handles, hee hee.

Or just put it on your grinder and grind it off.

Or cover it over with thick CA glue and paint it.

Or turn the handles inside out.

Or draw a monster face around it and make the butterfly the nose.

Isnt the butterfly laser engraved in the handle? Im not sure, but if it is, I dont think youll be able to get it off without removing the black anodized finish on the aluminium. I'd leave it

Now a "Prancing Unicorn" I could handle. My butterfly (that doesn't sound good, does it?) is on the handle, not the blade.
From what I've found about the 720, they were made with either aluminium or G10 handles. I think this one has G10, but it feels different then my other knives.
Its not that I really don't like the butterfly, but its on the left panel and with the clip on the left side, it just doesn't look good. I'll give toothpaste and mineral spirits a try.

The butterfly signifies that you have a quality Benchmade knife. Taking it off would be like... taking the emblem off a Ferrari or something.

It looks like the black handled ones are aluminum. Feel the logo. Is it raised or depressed. If it's raised, there's a *chance* it's painted on, but I doubt BM did that. More likely they anodized the handle piece and then lasered it. If you're serious, you could strip the anodizing, resurface the handle, and then send both sides out to get re-colored. Or you could have someone make up a pair of G10 slabs for you in black.
