removing the coating on a knife

I have this crappy marine combat kukri(so the manufacturer says) with a black coating that started peeling the firs day. i just realized that it would look good displayed without the coaing and i'm wondering how to take it off. i/m also thinking of replaing the handle with leather.

Go for it.
Just don't expect a nice shiney blade under the blactical finish.
Be prepared to do a good deal of sanding after the black is gone.

I used Zip-A-Strip paint remover on my CS Recon Scout and it worked well.
Then sand paper from 220 up to 800 grit.

1-steel brush
2-copper brush
3-dark sand-paper from 80 to 1200 grit
4-scotchbrite-pads for metal
5-flitz or similar polishing abrasive
