removing the coating on Tops knives

I have read where people use paint remover, has anyone tried this or done this to the coating on Tops knives?

Can I put a patina on 1095 steel?

I don't particularly like this knife so it is going to become my test blade...stripping the coating, new scales, reprofile the edge...

now im reshaping the handle and putting new scales on it, among other things. It has become my project blade to see what I can do...

I took the crinkley paint finish off a blade with paint remover . It worked well.

But under the paint was a grayish metal with lots of little grooves from the final grinding. After a lot of hand work with file and stone, the blade has a shine I can see my face in.

I took the paint off to make it easier to clean food off the blade, but painted or polished, it cut just the same.
