Removing the Optimiser Assist?

I have recently purchased a HD Venom. I really like the assist but I am curious about how to remove it since BM says that the assist is readily removable. However, I can't find any info on how to go about it. Anybody know how to remove the Optimiser Assist?

Thanks in advance,
Squashfan

I just removed the assist from my Barrage and it was pretty simple. Go into utube and search for benchmade deassist or assist removal. There are a few videos that take you through it. I'm assuming the HD assist is setup the same as their other assisted models.

Joe, thanks for the help but this is a different type of assist.
Scroll down this list until you see Optimiser Assist. It is almost all the way to the bottom.

Your Barrage has a coil spring but the Venom has something closer to the Nitrous assist. Almost like a leaf spring between the back spacer and the blade.

EDIT: The way Benchmade talks about this, I think that I should just be able to remove the spring without disassembly. The sticking point is: disassembly or no disassembly.

Looks kinda similar to the torsion bar a lockback knife uses but instead of preasure on the lock its on the blade tang so you probably just have to unscrew one side and remove the bar i could be wrong as its hard to tell by BMs pics on their site

I haven't seen the HD version, but the older 670/672 using the same method had a very small hex nut at the butt end of the knife that locked the torsion bar in place. The little hex tool used to adjust the torsion bar is, (or WAS) required for this. If this doesn't help, call BKC at 800-800-7427 and ask for Customer Service for the answer.

Ah......sorry Squashfan. I should have looked it up before I posted to verify we were talking about the same thing.

Sorry about that. :(

I don't see a nut like you are describing. Just the three back spacer screws.
I know that I can remove the assist with disassembly but I curious if I could just pop it out. Not a big deal.

Joe, don't worry because it happens to all of us.

Gotcha. It's rare to have an Osborne design miss the mark; but then again it was Benchmade's first entry into the A/O knife market. One of the better parts of the design was, well is, the ability to disable the mechanism by turning the set screw back and removing the torsion bar. As a manual opener the 670/672 Optimizer is a good knife; but since then we have the Nitrous, and then again, the A/O Axis, both of which are far superior in design.
