Removing Thumbstuds on CRKT Drifter

I want to remove the thumbstuds on my CRKT Drifter in order to remove the etching on the blade. Does anyone know if the studs are screwed or pressed?

The thumbstuds have a cap on them and there is a notch underneath the cap.

I guess pictures would be better, but I'm hoping someone has removed the studs on this particular knife before. If not, I will post pictures later tonight.

My best guess is they are screwed one to another. Sanrenmu makes them for CRKT. I have taken off all my Sanrenmu studs, and they are the same. Your description sounds like what it is on my Sanrenmus.

Use pliers on both studs, cover them with rubber/leather so not to damage the studs. Heating them prior is also good as they usually are loctited.

I didn't do heating & covering, because I wan't concerned in keeping them intact. The torque from opening will force open the loctite, but will require more force than if it' pre-heated. The caps of them now have some notches from the plier but that's fine with me :D.

Thanks Chris!

I actually have a beater SRM in the drawer somewhere. I'll see if it's the same studs as the Drifter and use them as practice.

This is verified. The SRM has the EXACT SAME thumb studs as the CRKT Drifter. Both were threaded. Thanks, again.
