Removing thumbstuds

I've got a BM Vex Tanto, and the left-hand thumbstud serves no purpose other than to snag on my pocket. Is it possible to remove that stud, leaving just the right-handed one?

Usually Benchmade thumb-studs go through the blade and screw together. One side being the male side and the other female. You could probably find a single sided thumb-stud from a knife making supply web site.
