is there an easy way, aside form sanding, to remove the a ti finish on a knife blade. I had an old folding knife with the finish all scratched, so I removed it with sand paper, but ti was a mission. is there some sort of chemical that will remove it?

Also, the knife has a thumb stud which im not sure if it can be removed or not. It doesn't have a bit opening to put a screwdriver in but it does spin. I tried gripping it with pliers but it wouldn't budge.

Anything that will dissolve the coating probably would harm the blade edge faster. The only way is through material removal AFAIK. It's a very tough stuff to remove.

The thumbstud might require heat to get it open, a soldering iron should do the trick. Heat grip and twist in both sides. Be careful not to twist your arm into the blade.

thanks for the help.

all I have left is the area around the thumb stud. I wanted to regrind the blade anyways, so I removed most of the finish like that, The knife is pretty sharp now too.
