I know this is a n00b question, and I know it's been addressed before, but I am too tired to think right now an' I can't remember to save my life.
so ren wax on micarta scales: is this a good idea? I'm not worried about the micarta being damaged if I don't, I just like how it looks when it's all slutted up, and I'd rather use ren wax than WD-40. wanna make sure the ren wax will be safe for me, too, not that I'm planning on ingesting it.

Ren Wax on Micarta is fine... it's fairly impervious to most things.

WD40 is not good for knives though as it contains a corrosive agent... the WD stands for "Water Displacer" and the corrosive agent helps to free up rusted bolts.

:)

thanks, soup. I had used some of the oil I use on the butcher block at work, but it made the scales smell a little off. :0( just put in an order for the way. stuff's expensive, but since you only need a little bit and I don't have that many knives I reckon it oughta outlast me.
