Ren Wax in the pores of cattle bone :(

Hi folks,
I recently used Renaissance Wax on dyed cattle bone covers of a pocket knife. Unfortunately, the wax caked in the pores and other natural imperfections of the covers and I'm unable to remove it. I would guess rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush would remedy the situation, but I'm curious what the hive thinks?
Thanks in advance!

Looking at an MSDS online for Ren Wax, they show 'white spirit' as the solvent or suspension. That usually means something like mineral spirits, which should work to thin it & clean it up. Also called 'Stoddard solvent', in reading more about it.

I also thought first of isopropyl alcohol - I'd think it might also do the job.

Ammonia.
Or, you can scrub it with a thick paste of baking soda, Dawn, and water. Use your thumbs to scrub.

Ammonia dissolves most wax.

I did mean rub a paste of Dawn, soda and water into the pores with your thumbs.
