Ren Wax

No. Pure mineral oil protects steel and is food-safe. It only takes a drop.

Then again if you use your knives often and keep them clean you probably don't need anything to coat them. Low-alloy steels will develope a patina from contact with food acids but it doesn't harm you or the knife, and many people feel it adds character.

I think the basic answere is no, being food safe takes in more than just the chemical nature of the product, was it manufactured in a clean environment, was it tested for bacteria, will any degradation products be non-toxic. There are many food safe products and they are labeled as such, even mineral oil comes as food safe and for all other uses. I have not found the need for coating kitchen knives, if they are clean and put away dry.

You're more than welcome, KBamhi. Keep your blades clean, sharp and dry, honestly that's all anyone needs to know :)

No is the answer. Ren Wax is a petroleum product. More specifically, it's a derivative of the leftovers from the distillation process. I don't think you want to smear any of that on your Caciocavallo Podolico.
