I've heard good things about Renaissance Wax Polish. Has anyone used it on Busse knives. Does anyone know what it would do to G10 or Micarta? I hear you have to "White Spirits" to get it off. Any experience would be helpful.

Thanks Hogs/Hogettes :)

I wouldn't hesitate using it on a Busse, it's a good product.

The Busses I own are all coated but I do use it on other knives.

I just put a thin layer on the blade or guard or whatever, let it set for 5 minutes then buff it off. I've never felt the need to strip it off so I haven't even tried.

I did put it on the handle of my RW which is micarta and it made it tacky and darkened it a bit, I saw no ill effects.

Oh, and I use it on my leather sheaths as well, works great.

Hope it helps.

I use it on all my non-coated blades ( Busse, SwampRat, & BarkRiver ) haven't had any rust issues, when it gets on the macarta I just wipe it off.

Works really well to prevent smudging and fingerprints!
:D

Some people like it for protection against oxidation... doesn't do it if you have salty/acidic sweat though.

It depends... some people I know have had great luck with Ren Wax vs. their sweat.

Personally, though, I've had a beadblasted 154CM blade develop staining and rust after a single hot summer day of carry... so you shouldn't be too surprised that Ren Wax doesn't do much against my sweat. ;)

There isn't much that will defend against alien corrosive sweat that some people have. Renwax is good stuff, but for busse storage I think I'd lean towards something like birchwood casey SHEATH or whatever it's called these days. Easier to apply and unless it's ivory micarta or some natural material won't hurt a bit. For my user busses I don't generally don't even bother with protection.

I'll have to look into SHEATH and Bullfrog. If anyone else has any metal and leather protection ideas, I'd love to hear it. Thanks.

Well, I happen to like MDLabs' XF-7 for metal... it works for me, when nothing else does.
