I found it strange that I saw these two on the Spyderco's online catalog, however people don't talk about it here at all..
so what's the deal here?

I just surfed on over to the Spydie site and took a look...you're right! I haven't even heard of these. I like the look of the Blackhawk. Spydercos with holes and no humps, like my Native, I really love.

That's the nice thing about it. It doesn't have an excessive hump that makes it look like a maniac. I dont' look at the asethetics too much, but you know the public saw the strange "ugly" blade and would definately shun you.
I really like how the renegade looks.

The Renegade and Blackhawk are two previously discontinued models from the 1990s.

Spyderco had a cache of NOS parts for these two models in storage back from when production was stopped in order to introduce modifications to the design. For various reasons production was never resumed.

The knives being sold now have been assembled from those NOS parts, with some refinements added. Supplies are limited.

yup those models are discontinued i believe spyderco doesn't even use gin-1 steel anymore? and i find the knife to be pretty nice looking too because it doesn't have the hump yet when i think about it it looks odd cause without the hump it looks very un spyderco-like

I found that with the Endura, the hump has advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages: you could put your hand on the slope to get a better grip
Disadvantages: on some openings (namely using the ring finger) you have to move the finger much further.
Still the Endura is a nice piece ;)

Actually there are a number of "humpless" Spydies. Off the cuff, I think of the Lum Chinese, the Centofantes C25 and C50, the Viele, and the Goddards have minimal humps to accommodate their hole. And the Native which shows signs of descending from the Renegade/Blackhawk design.
I have an earlier Renegade and like it. The newer one has a steel liner as I understand where mine does not. I also have an almite handled Blackhawk.
