How To Renewal Changes?

I've renewed Platinum for about 15 years, and typically it takes effect in a short amount of time. However, I remember several years back you had to take another step in your profile to get the same privileges and have your badge shown in posts. Has something changed? I'm not on the site as much as I used to be for various reasons but I don't see and questions/answers about this. Thanks all.
