The ABS Mastersmith show was held with Gunmakers and Firearms Engravers Show at the Silver Legacy Hotel. Attending only saturdays date I was wowed by the detailed work and super high quality of all who displayed there tools of the trade.
While the total number of M.S. Knifemakers was only fourteen there was lots of time to study each custom knife and talk with each master smith about the how the blade was made and what work went into the the knife.
Ron Newton had a sword with a damascus blade and his name in a pattern down the length of the steel. But one of his folders that was sold was a real eye catcher. The blade and bolsters was damascus with a dragon pattern thru out its length. It was a real beauty. But this knife was even more special as it had dual action opening. The damascus button on the side controlled the release when you want to fold the blade back into the handle, but with a position change of a switch inside the handle it would operate as a auto open and button push to unlock.
P.J. Tomes had many fine knifes to purchase and for all price ranges, but he had a protype small two blade pocket knife there which was very thin and rock solid. He said it would be finished for the Solvang Show.
Wayne Goddard was there showing off a very nice hand made bowie and had his new book avaible $50 Knife Shop.
Audra Draper had many choices avaible to ponder a purchase over but the one that caught my eye of was a 30 layer damascus blade with deer horn handle and synthetic opal that caught your eye everytime the knife was moved.
Grs and Ngraver had demo's all day with equipment and were ready to help you with any questions or let you try them out.
Sorry no pics.
