is this knife makers selling or are there other things like folks selling sanding belts and handle items? I cant seem to find a vendor list? this would be approx 2 hr drive for me and cost me close to $100.00 dollars in diesel fuel. Reason i ask is i went to a show in Palo Alto and it was ok, but really not worth the investment in fuel.

Dude, rent a Neon for $20 and you'll be ahead even after fuel! :) From what I hear of the Reno show, there should be some really nice knives from a lot of good makers there.

If you go, let us know how it is.

If you have to ask, then you are not a true knife guy:D lol...j/k....GO!!!!! yo don't have to spring for a hotel

oh i like knifes, thats not the problem. the balancing act we all do with money is. here i sit thinking do i go to show and outlay funds for that or buy some inswool and itc and finish off my forge. see the delima? i could take the wifes car but at 6'3" compact and fuel effecient cars are not comfortable to me. also i hate driving over the sierras doing 45 up hill cause the 4 banger doint have any balls. more then likely i will end up going was hoping to pick up some items there that i could use other then knifes. a vendor list would be great if they would post one.

The contacts you make and the relationships that develop will make the trip worth it for you. This is more than just a knife community, it is a "people" community! Developing friendships and relationships will pay off handsomely in the long run.

At shows, I've met Ed Fowler, Raymond Richards, Tom Ferry, Lyle Brunchhorst, Rick Hinderer, Ed Caffrey, Devin Thomas, and on and on and on...........................They've all been supportive, friendly, and wonderful to me. I'm better for having met them and many others.

Go to the show!!!!!!!!!!!!! Buying materials or knives at a show are just a bonus for a knifemaker. Meeting new friends and peers is the true value of attending a show. It doesn't matter whether you have a table at the show or not.

P.S.
Remember, that if you want to talk with a knifemaker at a show, that his or her time is very valuable. At that particular time, he is there to earn a living or at the very least, supplement his income if he's a part time maker. Be courteous and make sure that you catch him at a lull at his table. If he has potential customers, it's important to stay out of the way and give him the best chance to sell a knife or two!

Unless, of course, if you're thinking about buying one of his knives, then by all means, bother him all you want!

As far as I know its a show by ABS makers only. Don't think you'll find supplies there. I hear where your coming from. I just took a ride out to my favorite second hand store in hopes of bringing home some more saw steel. Now I wish I had called first.

Well, Ray, at least you got a half day out of the shop and got to experience some nice dull winter countryside while you burned some gas!! :p

I stopped at a little road side Mexican taco shack on the way home. I got more gas than what I started out with.
