A post in the exchange reminded me of my Camillus chute knife. When I bought it, the main blade was loose and did not lock in the open position when it fired. I kept putting off sending it back and now that door is long closed.

Anyone know how to repair it or have ideas?

Mine is the same way - I understand it is a common problem with the Camillus version. Given the intended use of this knife, I'm surprised that any were actually issued.

Mine works just fine so long as i remember to hold it tip down while opening.

I was issued one. It was a POS (the chute cutting blade broke in half cutting a piece of string). I replaced it with one of my own knives. Back then, Vietnam era, the USAF knew nothing about knives.

The canopy knife worked though. A friend of mine crashed on takeoff at Danang and chopped his way out of the canopy (F-4) when it failed to blow.

usually you can peen the brass pin. The kicker spring can also be bent "GENTLY" to make it fire faster/harder.
