Repair of early REKAT Rolling Lock

Hi all,
I have an early REKAT folder (the ones they made with a 3 1/4" ATS-34 upswept black blade) that I purchased used, probably from the forums, about 10 years ago. It had the small silver "tab" to activate the lock. A year or 2 after I bought it, the lock ceased to function. The knife still locks up, but there is no spring pressure on the metal tab to keep it locked. So, I'm guessing that the internal spring broke. (If I am mistaken about this, please let me know.) My question is: is there a knifemaker or knife or gun shop that still takes in these knives for repair, and if so, what should I expect to pay for the repair job? Any information would be most welcome!

Welcome to Bladeforums!

Good luck with the lock. I don't know of anyone who fixes them, but we have a lot of members here. :)

I have the same type problem.
Did you ever find a way to fix it?

I'm pretty familiar with the R.E.K.A.T mechanism, I could take a look at it for you...you can email me to discuss it, chippedmetal at gmail 👍

I'd contact Benchmade, on the off chance they still may have parts for them. After they bought the mechanism from Rekat, they used the lock on some Redbox imported knives.

Probably a broken spring. A clock repair shop might be able to make you a new one.

The Rolling Lock was altered by Benchmade. They changed the 2nd generation technology of REKAT's design when they acquired the patent. So instead of a vertical pull switch on the handle they went with a quarter-arc pull switch.

I've got some REKAT stuff and the HK Enigma. Benchmade used a smaller diameter bolt for the Rolling Lock. I highly doubt Benchmade bothered to follow in REKAT's footsteps and craft the pivot screw, blade stop bolt, and Rolling Lock bolt from 440C.
