Repair question for Joe

Joe, an acquaintance of mine broke one of the blades on a Buck model 311 trapper. It was his fault. He admits it and would pay to have the knife repaired. This leads me to a question that may be of general interest to the forum members. Does Buck maintain a stock of parts for regular production knives that have been discontinued? The 311 trapper is unique in that it has slender blades compared to other production trappers. My acquaintance has searched for a replacement for quite a while without finding one. He is not a Blade forums member and does not use auction sites like e-bay but has looked in sporting goods stores in several states. If it could be repaired with an original style blade, I will tell him to send it back to Buck.

Thanks for any help you can give on this.

Our rework guys try to hord any old useable parts they can get their hands on. They are mostly used for keepsake knives. THese are knives with special sentimental value. We like to do whatever we can to repair knives like that. Wether or not they can fix the trapper I don't know. The best bet would be to send the knife in to us to take a look at. Make sure he sends a note stating that he wants the knife fixed, if at all possible. If we can not fix a knife, we generally will replace it. In any case, it sounds like a warranteed item.

Hope this helps.
