Is this something BUCK could repair (with a charge of course) since they are building some or should I send it to Leroy and grow old waiting to get it back

Even in it's condition, I couldn't not buy it when the guy at the pawn shop said 35.00:eek:!

Hey Mitch,
It looks like that 124 has spent some time in the water. I know we can make it look better, but not sure we can make it 100%. If there are pits in the blade, they will most likely always be there. When we try to remove pits, sometimes they get smaller, sometimes they get bigger, and sometimes more pits show up. Oh, and sometimes, if we are lucky, they go away but not that often.
The handle needs to be worked on and possibly replaced. It does not look like we can grind away where it looks to have swollen.
Still for $35, I would say you did quite well! :)

Very lucky find.

Bet you're gonna end up with a knife worth at least four times what you paid.

:)

Well Mitch, given Joe's answer, I'd have that oldtimer in the mail to him tomorrow! How long is the blade and OAL on that one?

Blade is 6 3/4" OAL is 12" When it is sharpened (by me or BUCK) it will decrease slightly.

Water was the culprit I was thinking of. The blade only has 2 or 3 pits that I can see.

I think you oughta send it in to Joe. He's right about the blade... I wouldn't touch it. Just the handle. Write up a little note, asking the Buck folks to re-work the handle and leave the blade alone, and put it in the box with the knife.

But holy cow! A 124 for $35?? What a steal! :)

Just got a call from Randy with BUCK. The knife will be repaired and when I get it back I'll post pictures (I know how it'll look:D:D:D)

DANG IT YOU GOTTA GOOD DEAL,LOL That will make a sweet knife ,i'll be keeping an eye out for your post when it comes back to ya.

Mitch,
When I got your knives, I went straight for the 124. Once I saw it, i decided to check it out in the shop. Big mistake! I started fussing with it and before I knew it, all that was left was the blade. All the other components were shot due to exposure to some sort of liquid.
I located a good donor knife though and was able to recover the guard, both pommel pieces, and both handle slabs from it.
The only thing we wont be able to overcome are the blade pits. There is one pretty good sized one and some smaller ones that just might go away with enough persuasion.
I'm still confident that it will look a lot better than when we got it.
