Repairing A Melted Plastic Knife Handle

I was frying up some steaks last night when my girlfriend called me. We got to talking for awhile, when I started to smell something. I ran back to the kitchen, and was bummed to see that I had left the knife I had grabbed to trim some fat off with on the side of the frying pan. The plastic handle was melted - there was a ragged slot melted into the handle where the side of the pan made contact.

Well, the good news is the knife was a cheapie Ginsu which I probably paid less than $20 for the whole set, so no big loss. Still, it got me to thinking, is there a good way to repair melted plastic knife handles?

Don't joke about making my girlfriend pay for it - she has seen Kill Bill, and will probably come after you with it!
