Repairing chipped bone scales

I have an old Scout folding knife with bone scales. The scale on the shield side has a big chip on the edge adjacent to the springs.

If this were your knife, would you repair the chip? And if so, how would you approach it? What occurs to me is epoxy resin or putty. Of course, the ideal solution would be to have someone replace the scales but I don't want to go through the expense.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I would make a pile of fine shavings from cow bone and then stir this into a small amount of epoxy that is the right consistency, and then add a small amount of yellow and brown dye and with a small dental pick or other tool layer this over the damaged area, and leave it proud to the other surface. i would then use the dental tool to
approximate the pattern of the jigging or a tooth pick and then when dry sand it to match the contours of the existing scale

And you will end up with a mixture that is grey, then tinted, but won't match anything found in nature.
Leave it alone, or rehandle the knife.

I think it just adds character to her. Someone loved and used that knife. I would leave it alone also. But I would still use and carry it just be careful and not drop it.

Thanks, all, for your input. The more I think about the epoxy idea, the more I think it won't come out in a way I'd find aesthetically pleasing. I'll leave it as is for now.

Oh yeah, the knife was used and loved, all right. It is an Ulster Scout that is about 90 years old that was given to me about a week ago.
