repairing or repurposing old knives

Hello everyone,

Some time ago, and I do not remember where, I read several articles about rebuilding old knives in order to get experience and to re-purpose the knife. Part of the article was about taking old paring knives and steak knives for use in their camping outdoor kits and for whittling/ hand carving wood. Now for the life of me I can not find any reference to this at all. No matter how I word the search. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Or does anyone know of a book or other articles that talk about doing these things to gain experience?

Thank you

Mark
