I own the Black Horse II and am very happy with it.
Originally, I owned several Scallions, but as luck would have it, they all had problems with the little lock on the knife, each of them breaking.
Each time, Kershaw upgraded the knife I had with no charge. So essentially, I own the Black Horse II for the original price I paid for the basic Scallion.
This is why I will continue to purchase from KAI USA.

Is the Walmart sold Tanto Blur a decent knife, fpr the price?
Is the Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel pretty good?

Also, what about the Black Cyclone or Tanto Cyclone?
Any recommendations from the Utility/Police/Military or Hunt/Fish/Outdoor knives, preferably locking and serrated?

Thanks in advance.

tons. welcome to forum first off! you have entered into one hell of an addiction.

tanto blurs from walmart are fine as long as they don't have an 'xxxx' on the blade (usually these are mechanically fine, but they are considered factory seconds and have no warranty). i have 11 other blurs and they are amazing. cyclones and black cyclones are fine (but rather large comparatively speaking to the blur) take a look at the mini cyclones

also look at the ZT0200,0300,0500, and 0400 the 200 and 400 come in black serrated variations.

hope this helps, others will be along shortly im sure with more additions :)

Hey there,
For utility, I would go with a standard Blur rather than a tanto. It's a wonderful all around EDC. The Cyclone is another great knife for everyday carry, but I prefer the mini to the standard sized model.

I would also consider the ENER-G II and the Shallot in some variation.

The Blur is a great EDC knife. I personally don't care for tanto style blades (for me they are just limiting and I find them a pain to sharpen). I really like 13c26 it is really easy to sharpen holds a keen edge for awhile and is fairly corrosion resistant. The Cyclones have been discontinued so if you look around a mini or a full size Cyclone could be yours for a song. As far as a utility blade I'm going to say get a RAM (which you can get partially serrated) you will not be sorry.

I agree with HST's post above, the R.A.M. is one of Kershaw's top 5 knives currently in production imo. (not including the ZT line) You absolutely cant go wrong with a R.A.M. Here's a little video of the ram in action.

I also think the Cyclone is an awesome knife, but grab one soon, they are discontinued by Kershaw, Why, I don't know!

The blur was my first Kershaw knife--just be sure to get one after July 07, so you will get the updated 13C26 steel.

Also check out the shallots, and the cyclones, and if you really want a big knife, the ZT series.

Walmart doesn't sell factory seconds, I think you are thinking of something like 1670TBLKSTX , in which case I believe the X means clam pack or blister pack as i call it. The only place kershaw sells factory seconds is at the warehouse sale.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I will check into all of these.
What about some of the "zero tolerance" knives such as the 0500 Mudd Folder Knife?
Anyone have experience with those?

The 0500 is built like a tank. It will take almost anything you
throw at it. Very (and I mean VERY) grippy G10 scales. It locks
up as solid as anything I've ever handled.

Here's a pic of one beside it's little brother, the RAM.
As far as EDC, the RAM is my personal favorite.
