If you where making a remake of the classic "First Blood" movie, what knife would you have Sly using instead of the "Lile", now consider the movie, it does not have to have a hollow handle it might have a sheath pouch instead, what would you think would look good and has to be practical incase any knifenut says "that knife could not do that"

Remember the camera adds 20Lbs, Ha Ha Ha!!!

What d'ya hunt with a knife?
Name it!

You can't put the words Rambo and practical together.
It just doesn't work. We know we're watching a fantasy anyway so what it doesn't matter.
There are 2 types or movie watchers those that just go with the flow and enjoy the flick and those that count the bullets that the gun fired.

Ahh come on, have a heart, please just go with the flow for this one, for me, please, pretty please...

Livesay RTAK?

I must confess that I fall into the "bullet counting" category. As such, it prevents me from enjoying many movies, but occasionally I am pleasantly suprised. The few movies where the directors are meticulous enough to avoid making dumb mistakes are usually good flicks anyway.

Besides, everyone needs a dose of reality every now and then to clarify that they actually live (hopefully) in the real world.

Ok Ill Play.
My choices for replacing the Rambo Knife. It would have to be an all around useful tool used both for survival and weapon. Here are a few of my choices.

Black cloud fighting bowie
A little to slender and fighter style which would hurt camp and field use and the back side sharpened swedge could be shorter like in the Fb3 so you can assist cutting by pushing on the back but in fantasy movie land this could be cool just for its looks. http://home.att.net/~a.boriqua/Images/fb4_black_cloud.jpg

Sunrise Fighter
This one has the nessesary meat in the blade great handle ergo and is cool looking as all hell. In a movie yanking this beast out would make me see the movie over and over just for the knife. Damn thats a honey! http://home.att.net/~a.boriqua/Images/bigsunrise3.jpg

Jungle warfare busse
Another I might pick for a movie but not nessesarily what I would choice were I a real life Rambo and not a guy who makes childrens exhibits. IT is another interesting looking knife. Spade like blade, Skull crusher that hurts my head just looking at it. Great looking recurve. In life though a recurve would be a pain to sharpen in the field and I dont care for partly serrated blades. Maintainance wise both these features could be a pain if your journey means your out of civilization for a while. http://home.att.net/~a.boriqua/Images/jungle_warfare_busse.jpg

Andy Prisco's personal bowie
Now here is one that I think satisfies both criteria. This could be movie magic as well as the other guys and in real life would be a very worthy tool in the field as well as for all that dispensing of enemy personnel http://home.att.net/~a.boriqua/Images/andybowie.jpg

Mine
Perhaps my steel heart varient is the best of all

7.5 inch blade is very useful without being toooo long or heavy. clip point busse is very neat looking but without a sharpened swedge you can push or hammer on back. Skull crusher. Plenty heft for chopping. Not as slick and light as a fighter but if I remember the Rambo movies right he never did much fencing. So a movie Rambo could do far worse in cool looking movie cutlery and a real Rambo ?? would be truly well served. http://home.att.net/~a.boriqua/Images/Busse_left.jpg

For the simple "fear factor", one of Jerry Hossom's Millenium Fighters in A-2 with a green canvas micarta handle. Who in their right mind would even think once about dealing with something like that up close? For more utilitarian survival needs, a Chris Reeve Jereboam II would nicely fill the bill. Definitely not flashy, but a purposeful looking piece if ever there was one.

It's only a mistake if you fail to learn from it!

If I had to hike long distances, and fend for myself along the way, I would probably carry a medium size SAK of some kind (o.k. maybe a multitool - depending on whether the movie is set during the 80s, 90s, or 00s). Unfortunately, that would kill the plot device. Next!?!
