replaced scales on Tenacious

Hey guys,
So I tried to throw on some Flytanium scales on my Spyderco Tenacious. In the process I polished the washers, blade, and frame a bit all in the pivot area. I'm afraid I may have taken off too much material.

Now, no matter how much I tighten the pivot screw (and hold back the liner lock) the blade has all sorts of jiggle in it.

Needless to say, the blade is also off center now.

Any ideas? Did I ruin it by polishing it a bit with 1500 grit sandpaper?

Are you sure you got all the washers back in? How hard and how long did you polish things?

That's exactly what it feels like. Like a washer is missing. I'm 90 percent sure they are all back in. Gonna pull it apart once more when I get back home to make sure there are 4 in there. As for polishing, I was super gentle. Black finish is still there on the blade and frame. There's even some oxidation on the washers still. Yes, some copper color came off on the 1500 sandpaper, but it was no more than 10 strokes per side of the washer.

I'm about to take a hair off the length of the female side of the pivot screw to bring everything back in tight.

Also, make sure the stop pin is fully seated. Could be that. It doesnt sound like you sanded off too much material, but id have to see it to know.
Wish you luck!

well, it's the scales. swapped em out for the original and everything lined up without a problem. guess i'll be reaching out to flytanium. too bad though, they looked awesome. titanium scales, black blade, black frame, red back spacer. tried one side carbon fiber (original scales) and one side titanium but that didn't work either. better than both being titanium but had to crank down on the pivot screw to keep the blade from touching the frame.

They may swap them out for another set to try... i would contact flytanium...could be a glitch. Good luck. :)

so i contacted flytanium. they said (and correctly so) that since the tenacious is made in china, it's tolerances aren't always up to spec. they heard of this before and they have shims that they are going to send me (for free) right away. thanks to everyone here for helping out someone who thought they had it covered. good lesson in humility and modesty. i'll report back after i receive the shims as to how it went.
