Replacement boxes?

I am wondering if anyone has ever gotten replacement boxes from Chris? I recently had some water damage in my basement and quite a few of my knife boxes were damaged and thrown away. I have the birth cards for all of the knives in question as they were stored with the knives themselves, and only looking for boxes for the ones that may be collectable as I know buyers like original boxes and documentation. Second question, is it worth it to get the boxes if they would not be the ones the knives originally shipped in? These are two classics from 08 and 06 that I am mostly thinking of replacing boxes for.

Thanks
Pat

I just sent in a knife to the Spa for a redo on the scales and a replacement birthcard. I requested that they send it back in a box. It is a new white box like the originals, but NO label.

Pat, without directly opining on your question, as far as I know CRK doesn't have replacement boxes of the same type you probably lost. (Big sympathies, by the way; we had a massive basement flood a few years back and people who haven't had that happen probably don't appreciate what a disaster it can be. :( ) Replacement boxes would be the new size/shape, and wouldn't have the original end labels, so there's probably no real value to restore/add by getting replacement boxes. :(

Did they send one of the older, less elongated boxes? I've only gotten replacements in the thinner, longer shape! :)

Guys, thanks for the replies. It was a mess for sure but is all taken care of now. As I said nothing real important was damaged except for a rubber tub that I had alot of knife boxes stored in had a crack I didnt know about.

I will contact Chris Reeve direct and see what they say. Normally the boxes wouldnt bother me in the least as I mentioned, however I know collectors like boxes and buyers like boxes. Might be looking to sell a few knives to fund a down payment on a new house soon so figured I would look into it.

CRK is currently using the longer, slimmer boxes when returning knives from the spa. The boxes have a sticker that says something to the effect of "this is not the original box." It may not help the value, but it certainly can't hurt it if you go to sell these. More importantly, you have the original paperwork.

My thoughts and observations, fwiw. Boxes and papers don't usually (for normal CRK knives) translate to higher resale value but usually translate to faster sale times. Of course, if you have a rare knife, that might be different. I agree with MMAR that having the cards is probably more important than the box.

The people who care about weather or not it has box when buying, want the original box, rather than a new replacement box.

With really old Leica film cameras, sometimes the box and papers are worth almost as much as the camera! I save my boxes, but in truth, it would not mean a thing to me if I were buying a used knife, as long as it is legit and not abused.

Nismo is correct. If not the original box, there is no value, unless you don't tell the buyer they are replacements
