I somehow managed to lose my Commander that I bought back in 1999. It has been my EDC ever since then. I EDC'd my Spyderco Military and then my Police, but I've discovered how much I miss my Commander, and the Wave in particular.

I just need to bite the bullet and get a replacement or beg for one for Christmas. I was originally going to get another Commander, but now I'm considering the CQC-8, the CQC-15, and the CQC-11. The Commander and the CQC-7 are the only ones I've ever handled and there are no dealers immediately nearby.

Thoughts and feelings on these? Advantages and disadvantages of these over the Commander or the others?

It'll be an EDC for PD only, as I carry another small knife for utility.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Kage

the 11 is rather big for my tastes. but the 15 is the best of the cqc7 and the commander. Recurve blade of the commander and the pointy tanto tip of the cqc7. It waves very well and the handle gives you a very good purchase on the knife. the cqc8 is also another excellent knife good pointy tip with the curved "banana blade". I have owned both and like both equally as much.

i would get a '12 or '13, of the ones on the list? the '15 probably 1, '8 at 2.

never was nutz about the '11 myself.

Get another Commander. You won't be sorry.

You might want to take a look at the SOCFK-A as well.

Thank you feveryone fo the replies. The 12 & 13 just do not appeal to me, although they seem very popular. The integral lock on the 12 is amazing, but also out of my price range.

I'll look up the SOCFK-A. Right now I'm leaning towards the 8, as it seems to be good for slashing while still penetrating very well. Am I right in thinking that the 15 is essentially a Commander with less recurve and a modified tanto tip?

Anyone else have any opinions of these knives and how any compare to the others?

Thanks again!

You are right about the cqc15. Both the 8 and the 15 are amazing knives. Why not get both!!:D:D. Personally i like the grip of the 15 much better than the 8.

Slight differences in blade/handle shape, reflect personal preference more than actual functionality. In the end, for me I picked the CQC-12 becasue it is HD, and without a doubt the strongest knife of the whole bunch. The extra money was well spent....

My vote? Get ya a CQC12 or an HD7. They are the two best EKI offers the end line user.

Thanks for all of the replies.

The thing I didn't like about the Commander is the way the handle slopes down at the end where your thumb is when in a reverse grip position, which the 8 also has. I always feel like my thumb has nowhere to go. It gives good leverage when stabbing, but I don't like it for slashing. I like the handle shape of the 11 & 15 better. Still leaning towards the 8 regardless. It just seems like the best blade shape of this bunch for slashing and stabbing.

Too bad Ernie doesn't make a Waved Persian. That's a knife that really appeals to me, but the main thing I'm looking for in my new knife is the Wave feature. I just haven't found a faster opening knife.

Thanks again for your suggestions!
