Hello everyone...i need a replacement knife after my brother lost my beloved 1660st. I always liked it because of the speed safe assisted open and the width. I liked how it was so thin i sometimes forget it was in my pocket.

What can you all suggest as a replacement...here are my requirements...

1 - assisted open
2 - light/thin
3 - partly serrated blade
4 - not TOO expensive

Before I went out and bought another 1660st, figured I'd ask for suggestions first...

thanks for the help

That's a bummer man... So I have a question for you... what is *too* expensive? If you liked the 1660ST, then you'll LOVE the 1660TCKTST... also known as the Random Leek. The only place that you can get one from though is Chesapeake knife and Tool. (just google "Random Leek" and you'll easily find CK&T's website) In case you aren't familiar, it's a Limited Edition Kershaw Leek, made with premium S30V steel, and also has a stylish Reverse Tanto blade. It's essentially the 1660ST on steroids. :)

NOTE: This is NOT my picture... So if the original photographer would like me to take down the pic, just say the word!!

looks puurrttyyyy :) "too expensive" = <$100...don't use the knife often enough to warrant spending more.

There's several different varieties of Leeks. There's the plain one, a mirror polished one, the rainbow coated one, black coated, gold (titanium nitride, not actual gold) coated, as well as the aluminum handled linerlock ones with colored "smoke" anodization. It sounds like you like the Leek, so there's really no need to look elsewhere, right? ;) But there's plenty of other Leeks if you want something different.

how are Bucks? I read here that they have a good assisted open, but how do they compare to the kershaw?

I'm kinda fond of the blackout/whirlwind and scallion myself. Can be had for cheap too, scallion around $30 and blackout(whirlwind has a little more belly in the blade and not black coating) for $40 or so. Only assisted I have compared them too would be Camillus Heat. Didn't really care for the Zytel handles on the Heat, just felt, off...hard to explain. Seemed to be decent for the price though and had ok steel for a "user", Aus8 I think. If you had a Leek before and liked it, I would say get another one. My $.02

I just did that very thing..thanks everyone for your input/advice...i just ordered the Leek 1660cktst..i dont REALLY fully understand what the coating does to the knife to make it cost more, but i prefer the black since it blends in more when i wear it at work (black dress pants..)
