Does anyone have a source for a M5 x .8 threaded glass breaker tip. My nephew asked me to fix his knife and this part is missing.

Not sure if any of knife manufacturers use the same m5 hole and thread pitch for their glass breakers.

I've seen some online but the ate model specific with no reference to the hole and thread pitch.

It's an inexpensive knife but it would make his day.

Thanks!

What knife is it?

If it's inexpensive enough maybe you can buy one, possibly a pre-owned one, and get a replacement glass breaker that way.

No clue, it's a cheap OTF with no branding. It's black handles with recessed chevrons with a punisher logo in the middle. I believe he bought it at the fair. Again mostly just a sentimental knife.

I'm always cautious about putting in a lot of effort on a senseless task. Your best option would be to ask him to trade you his broken junk knife for a good knife from your collection. It would be better for all involved.

But if you are dead set on repairing the existing knife, there are a bunch of glass breaker tips available online. The prices I found range from five bucks to thirty. If you can't get a tip with the thread size you're looking for, you can get something bigger, and then drill and tap the knife accordingly. Or you can get a smaller tip and make a bushing. Get yourself a stainless screw with the correct thread size. Square up the end of the screw. Drill and tap it for the glass breaker. Screw the glass breaker into the end of the stainless screw. Cut off the appropriate length of threads so that the glass breaker/bushing will screw into the knife handle to the perfect depth. Finish it up and Loctite it into place.
