I found a vintage Norlunds hatchet that looked as if it had never been sharpened. Bad news was that ment multiple deep nicks, good news was the original temper was still there. Using a hone with various grits of paper I have been working with the Norlunds hatchet for around a week now and I finally got the blade profiled to a great convex edge that will shave you without the edge being to thin.
Using it got me thinking and being a blade addict I finally broke down and ordered a Bark River Mini Axe to be a companion to my North Star. Here is the question;
How hard are handles to find for the Bark River? I put a hardware store hatchet handle in my Norlunds that was marked "Boy Scout Model" and it fit fine with a little time on the belt grinder. Do you have to use a special handle for the Bark River. I understand it is a reprofiled Vaughn Sub Zero. Will a hardware store replacement work if I need one?
