Does anyone know if this is available for purchase direct from Benchmade? I sent them an email about a week ago and haven't received a response yet. I bought a used Presidio from a member here, and he blasted/sanded the coating and some of the aluminum off of one side. I temporarily painted that side black with paint, but I don't see it lasting long. Anyone know where I can get one, or does anyone have an extra set laying around from a custom scale swap? Thanks!

Emails don't often get returned as we'd like. Best to call them at 800-800-7427 and ask about replacement scales for your knife. If the answer is no, there are a few gents right here that make awesome custom versions, like our friend Keyman; there are many examples of his work easily found through a brief search. Good luck, let us know how it went!

I'll have to try calling them tomorrow. I wouldn't mind an aftermarket set of scales, but I think I'd prefer the stock scales for now. Plus, I'd like to keep the cost to a minimum if I could.

Just cuz I haven't seen anyone show a set of custom scales for a 520 doesn't mean it hasn't been done-- if BM can't help you (I suspect they can/will, and as I recall a new single G10 scale for an HK I had cost me $25) post a WTB here, and also on the BM forum. Good luck!

I have an ad in the WTB section already, but no bites so far. I think Keyman has made some Presidio scales, which I may have to do if BM won't sell me a scale.

You could order a full size Bone Collector and swap the blades out. This hybrid has been nicknamed the Bonsidio.

I contacted BM this morning, and luckily they do offer replacement scales for this knife. Unfortunately, they're pretty pricey. They want $90 for the pair, or $45 for a single scale, and I have to send the knife to them. I'm tempted to send it to them because I need to take advantage of their lifesharp program as well. This knifes blade is pretty dull, and my sharpening skills are sub par at best.

$90 isn't too bad and about par for, or less than custom and puts the knife back to rights. Then add what they do during the LifeSharp process of sharpening, replacing springs and screws as they see fit, including the clip if you want a new one; that's not a bad deal esp. if you like the original scales.

yeah I was going to say they are pricey. thats why I didnt go with stock replacements.

There is a much less expensive way to go -- reanodize them. This cost around $40 + shipping (which wasn't much at all):

"My guy" can do just about all the colors -- even black. I currently have my 940 at his place to get reanodized, plus the G10 scales and backspacer from my wife's 275 Adamas to get Cerakoted (he does anodizing, Cerakote, Duracoat, and I think KG Gunkote).

If the condition of the scale that was ruined was better, then I would, but all the milling has been rounded off almost like it was sanded down. It definitely needs a new scale to look like it should.

Lots of folks don't like the sharp edges of the scale serrations, and having rounded off serrations will make it gentler on your pocket. You could always sand down both scales to smooth them out to match and send them off. Once they're reanodized, they may look like they were meant to be that way.

I wouldn't be too hasty to replace them. I have a BM 520 that I don't use much because it chews up my pockets. This isn't a theoretical problem - it will really destroy your jeans. Other than that, it is a great knife.
